Thanks for making plans to be part of the 5K with a local flavor: The Food Food Truck 5K™ - a community event hosted by thrive UMC and benefiting Iowa Homeless Youth Centers.

Why Food Truck 5K?
Why not? It's much easier justifying the amount of food you'll eat after running a 5K...

This is a fun event that celebrates the awesomeness that is Des Moines. We believe that we all benefit when we come together to support a great cause (Iowa Homeless Youth Centers) and have a good time.

When & Where?
The 2018 Food Truck 5K™ will start at 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 15th.

The event will be hosted at THE HALL in the Valley Junction area.

About The Hall
The Hall brings people together to make a positive impact on each other and our neighborhood. The Hall's role in the community is to connect and nourish friends and neighbors with drinks, food and friendliness. It all starts when you pull up a chair and start a conversation.

Nine food trucks make the menu at The Hall truly unique throughout the week. Order your favorite fresh street food and devour it at one of our giant community tables with friends and family.

There are 54 taps at The Hall. (That’s right, 54.) Choose from local craft beer, national brews, red wine and sparkling white wine—all on tap. Or, if you’d like something more unique, try a signature cocktail.

Where is The Hall?
The Hall's address is 111 South 11th Street in West Des Moines. When you're driving on Railroad Avenue, please go south on South 9th Street (not 11th Street, which will be closed for the 5K route).

So I run and then I eat? How does this event work?
After your 5K, stick around for a Food Truck Rally. Hang out, celebrate your 5K accomplishment, eat great food with friends and enjoy some live music. Participants receive $5 in Food Truck Bucks and free admission to the rally.

Like the 5K, the Food Truck Rally is open to the public. For guests attending the Food Truck Rally only, we suggest a $5 donation to Iowa Homeless Youth Centers.

Who can participate?
Everyone! The race is open to all ages. Registration for kids 12 and older is required.

What will the route be like?
You'll go south on South 11th Street (we'll close off a lane), cross Lincoln Street, get on the trails to the Raccoon River, and come right back by retracing your steps. The home stretch will lead you right to the food truck rally, which will be on the west side of The Hall.

I'm a super-serious runner and I'm looking for a super-serious event. Would this be a super fit for me?
Probably not, though it's not that we wouldn't love to have you join our party...This fun run/fun walk/fun food truck rally does not offer chip timing (which means more of your donation is going to Iowa Homeless Youth Centers). If we haven't made it clear: This is a fun, community event with the focus of a FUN fundraiser for a fantastic cause.

I'm not a runner. Can I walk the 5K?
Absolutely. Walkers will follow the runners on the course and receive the same benefits.

Are strollers allowed?

How about dogs?
Please leave your dogs (that are not service dogs) at home. Though we like dogs, we have a no-dog policy with the goal of ensuring a safe, family-friendly event. Sorry, and thanks for understanding.

That's our goal! Each participant receives a cool shirt with the 2018 event logo on it.
